Message to Teams Friday 14 May 2010

We sent a last-minute email to team leaders on Friday afternoon 14 May. If for any reason it didn't reach you, we repeat it here.

We’ve passed last year’s total of 540 people, yippee! As of last night there were 131 teams in the 3-hour event and 61 in the 6-hour. Most popular as always: the family section of the 3-hour with 50 teams! Second equal the mixed sections in both 3 and 6-hour.

Some practical hints that will make the day go better. The weather forecast suggests cooler temperatures and showers. We’ll be going ahead rain or shine, if the former you might like to pay the extra and use the carpark under the TSB Arena. This is huge, there’s nothing on at the Arena and you should have plenty of room for changing gear etc. It’s right underneath where we’re operating. We’ve got contingency plans for really bad weather - they include shortening the time, and/or deleting some of the higher control points. The ferry to Seatoun can’t run in certain conditions and we’ll let you know by signage on the day. If you want to change from 6 hours to 3 hours that’s no problem, just turn up at the later time.

Three-hour teams: there are lots of you, if you can arrive earlier than 11am it will spread the load on check-in. We’ll be ready for you from 10:30 if not before. And it would help if just the leader did the check-in and map/scorecard/vest pickup, or two people if you’ve got a really big team. It will let you get your maps quicker. If you have any questions, team changes, anything out of the ordinary, look for the “Help” desk so you don’t hold up the rest.

As usual no-one can get all the control points. Specially since even the 6hr teams can go for every one of the 103 controls. 3-hour teams, you may want to choose one or two areas where the controls are close together. And perhaps leave the ones near the finish to fit into any time left at the end.

Finally, if you haven’t read the “detailed information” on the website, have a look before Sunday. See you then!
